Tree Trimming Party 2007

Erin and Orin held their annual Tree Trimming Party on Saturday, despite the snowstorm that came through St. Louis.  (Note to any actual Minnesotans reading this - it was 7 inches of snow.  Yes, I know, but down here that qualifies as a snowstorm.)

The tree was successfully trimmed, and instead of the usual gingerbread house, a gingerbread church was decorated this year, steeple and all.

The last time we tried to create a gingerbread church, a couple years ago, the gingerbread had not baked long enough and began to bend and collapse under the weight of the steeple and decorations.  This year: so far so good.  If we can keep the dogs away from it, so much the better.

  1. If you are taking suggestions for next year, I would go with a gingerbread amphitheater, complete with millennium spire and bell pool!

  2. Oooh! Fun! However...I think you should make 20,000+ little gingerbread people, and build a gingerbread stadium, and a gingerbread stage, and fill it with the people and re-enact NCYC! :D Now THAT'S a challenge! ;p

  3. Orin, don't be such a snow snob! It doesn't take 14 inches of snow to be dangerous, ESPECIALLY when it falls on top of a layer of ice.

  4. I'm just saying, what amounts to a snowstorm is relative - I remember a couple storms in MN that were just a lot of wind and the snow already on the ground...

  5. I have to say Erin, I think I have to side with Orin on this one. Not that snow on top of ice isn't dangerous because it really is. There were numerous accidents near where I live. (And we didn't have big trees down!) But my mom is from NE Iowa and my dad from SW Wisconsin and we have family from Minnesota too. And I was born in Iowa. So to us, 7 inches is nothing. Even the 15 inches we got last year wasn't bad. People just aren't used to it in MO. I guess that's what makes it dangerous. Take this weather up north and no one will think anything of it. They freaked here! We laughed! Until people got in accidents. Then it wasn't so funny.
