Kye Kye Kule, part II & pOddcast!

Some folks have been wondering what the heck we're talking about, this whole "Shay Shay" "Kye Kye" business. Well.

Kye Kye Kule?

Since the summer of 1996, one of the audience-participation songs that Shannon has done has been "Shay Shay Cool Yay". After watching a Camp School staff member do it before breakfast morning, Shannon knew he had to learn it. After writing down the words he remembered, it came out like this:

Shay shay cool yay (repeat)
shay coal fee sah (repeat)
coal fee sah longa (repeat)
longa choomonga (repeat)
hey-a-lay-a-lay (repeat)
ONE MORE TIME NOW! (repeat)

Ever since then Shannon has done it that way. If you've seen it live you also know that he adds some crazy "motion" as he says each line.

Today, Shannon's "Shay Shay" world was changed forever.

This morning, Shannon and his kids were listening to "Old Joe Clark", a newer CD from Jill Trinka and John M. Feierabend. All of the sudden, Shannon heard something that sounded awfully familiar:

It was the exact same song, but with the real words. Eleven years after hearing it for the first time, Shannon finds out that the words aren't just jibberish. After doing some digging, we found out that this song is actually a Ghanian childrens folk song. Who knew?

Oddwalk is going to look into getting booked on the Ghana youth rally circuit.

Alabama Boy Kills 1,051-Pound Monster Pig, Bigger Than ‘Hogzilla’

An 11-year-old Alabama boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog that just may be the biggest pig ever found.

Jamison Stone’s father says the hog his son killed weighed a 1,051 pounds and measured 9-feet-4 from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.

Take Oddwalk Out to the Ballgame

Oddwalk and families were at last Saturday's Cardinals baseball game - separately. The Cernekas were celebrating their 4th anniversary, the Johnson/Hammonds were celebrating Kyle Hammond's 21st birthday. The groups were sitting nearly opposite of one another. The Cardinals eventually won, after a nearly 2-hour rain delay with 2 outs in the top of the ninth. Ack. A good time was had by all!

Happy Memorial Day

A few months ago we asked for your prayers when Belleville, IL police officer Jon Brough was severly injured in a raid.

While there are still several surgeries left, Jon is doing as well as can be expected. He even threw out the first pitch at Busch Stadium yesterday:

Congratulations Marianne (and all graduates)!!

Congratulations to Marianne Cline (pictured all the way to the left) for graduating from High School tonight at California (Missouri) HIgh School. Marianne is a faithful Oddwalkian and a dear friend. She is heading off to Truman State University this fall and we'll certainly miss having her around all the time.

Incidentally, if you've ever wondered what a high school graduation would sound like with twenty-one different air horn blasts, be sure to get your tickets for the 2008 Graduation Ceremony at California High School. Nothing says, "I'm proud of your academic achievement" quite like an air horn.

FOUR YEARS!

Four years ago today, Erin and I were married at St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanberry Church in Fulton, MO.



Alot has happened in four years:

two cats (then only one cat...sorry Otis)

Madeleine
Erin becomes a member of the NICU Transport Team
Erin becomes a baseball fan

We're back!

Sorry about the lack of blogging this past week... Oddwalk (and families) was road-trippin' up to Chicago, working on an "ultra-secret project" -- so ultra-secret in fact, that a bunch of you probably already know what it is. If you don't, don't worry. All will be made clear as we progress through the year.

We do have some pictures which are pretty cool and might even serve as hints about out trip. We'll be posting these over the next little while.

Where we were, Orin tried one day to sit down in the hall during a break. Apparently, Orin somehow missed the floor, and put an Orin-shaped dent in the wall. While no pictures exist of this, pictures do exist of how the building owner responded. The next day, instead of the dent, Oddwalk saw this:


Day after that, we saw this:


If you can't make it out, the squirrel is unzipping its fur to reveal a Superman t-shirt. The building owner talked about keeping the location as-is, and updating it regularly, maybe even blogging it. If that happens, we'll let you know. We (well, Orin mostly) are just glad he had a sense of humor about it. See, his place is below a Starbucks Coffee and has had problems like massive leaks destroying a ceiling and putting a couple computers out of commission for a couple days... An Orin-shaped dent in the wall, in comparison, is not that bad.
